Career Guidance

Career Guidance process and steps

The word ‘career’ is just so important, isn’t it?

It’s usually a difficult or complicated topic to talk about. It is even a major cause of stress, tension, overwhelm and chronic confusion in not just students but even working professionals.

Most students make big career decisions after their 10th boards exams or 12th boards exams.

Those can be times of extreme confusion but if done right, you will have a career you love.

Here are some points to consider before making major career decisions.

What to focus on when choosing your career?

  1. Do you like the actual work?

  2. Do you need to learn any skills to excel at this career?

  3. Will you like it on good and bad days

What does career guidance mean?

A simple google search mentions that: Career guidance is used to help people, to make educational, training, and occupational choices and to manage their careers.

It is the guidance given to individuals to help them acquire the knowledge, information, skills, and experience necessary to identify career options, and narrow them down to make one career decision.

This career decision then results in their social, financial and emotional well-being throughout.

According to us, simply put- career guidance is professional help in making better, aligned career choices as per your needs, interests and skills.

Why is career guidance important?

1.     It helps you overcome obstacles

2.     It teaches you to make better decisions

3.     It solves mental overwhelm

4.     It is a personal approach that focus on your skills and career needs

5.     It helps you manage your expectations

Who will benefit the most from career guidance?

Every person of all ages and backgrounds will benefit from career guidance.

However, the sooner they get guidance the better. So, we suggest career guidance for students who have recently completed their 10th or 12th standard board exams, new graduates and new working professionals looking for career alignment.

Even people working in the corporate sector or business owners who are further ahead in their careers, benefit from career guidance. For them it can be most useful at times of pivoting or implementing new strategies that they might need help with.

What does the process of career guidance look like at Siraya wellness centre?

At Siraya, we help our clients (students or working professionals) go through a streamlined process which includes:

  1. Aptitude testing

  2. Personality test

  3. Intelligence test

These are then followed up with a session with our guidance counselor to understand the results and further discuss how to implement the best practices to ensure a bright future, career wise.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself to determine if you need career guidance at this point in time:

  1. Am I happy with my career choices?

  2. Do I have a good work life balance?

  3. Are my work problems being solved or piling up?

  4. Do I want to change something about my work life?

  5. Does this career bring me the peace and money I expected?

  6. Am I spending more time complaining about my career than working on it?

  7. Am I handling work pressure as well as I can?

If your answers reflect a need for further help, we suggest you speak to our professional career counselors here, at Siraya mental wellness, who will help you get closer to your goal of having a career that makes you happy and makes you money without stress.
